ACEA is a modern Italian multi-utility company providing services to municipalities, private businesses, and citizens. With more than 150 years of history (its origins date back to 1856, when the first Italian-French company for gas supply was established), ACEA has steadily expanded its presence across the region. The current Group, established in 2003, operates in 47 municipalities in northwestern Italy, serving approximately 150,000 residents.
ACEA’s core activities include waste collection, the recovery and valorisation of organic waste, energy services through the distribution of natural gas and related commercial activities, as well as district heating services.
The anaerobic digestion of organic waste produces biogas, which is subsequently upgraded into biomethane. The solid residue generated by the anaerobic digestion process, known as digestate, is treated at the company’s composting facility to produce high-quality compost marketed under the name Florawiva, a product certified under the Italian Composting and Biogas Association (CIC – Consorzio Italiano Compostatori) brand.
Since 2007, ACEA has been collaborating with universities and research centres on numerous national and European research projects, focusing on three main areas: clean energy, green chemistry, and the development of energy communities.
