The Azienda Cuneese Dell’Acqua S.p.A. was established as a Consortium for the Collection and Treatment of Wastewater following the issuance, in April 1975, of Regional Law no. 23/75 for the protection of water from pollution. In 1976, the municipalities of Cuneo, Borgo San Dalmazzo, Roccavione, Robilante, Vernante, and Limone Piemonte formed a consortium to jointly manage the collection and treatment of wastewater in their respective territories.
The activity of wastewater collection and treatment was carried out through the construction of a treatment plant located in Cuneo, near the confluence of the Stura River and the Gesso Torrent, along with a series of collectors and lift stations to convey the wastewater from residential and industrial settlements in the municipalities to the plant.
Between 1994 and 1996, the municipalities of Boves, Bernezzo, Cervasca, Roaschia, and Vignolo joined the Consortium, bringing the total number of member municipalities to 11, serving a directly and indirectly served population of nearly 100,000 inhabitants.
In 1995, pursuant to Law 142/90, the Municipal Consortium was transformed into a Special Entity and renamed Azienda Cuneese Depurazione Acque (Cuneese Water Treatment Company). In June 1999, the name was changed to Azienda Cuneese Dell’Acqua to reflect the expansion of activities to the entire integrated water service, while retaining the same acronym, A.C.D.A.
On June 30, 2003, due to specific legal requirements, A.C.D.A. was transformed into a joint-stock company, named Azienda Cuneese Dell’Acqua S.p.A., with its articles of association restricting ownership of shares exclusively to the municipalities within ATO 4 “Cuneese”.
Today, A.C.D.A. is owned by 109 municipalities across the Cuneo mountain and foothill area, from the Tanaro Valley to the Varaita and Po Valleys.
