The Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) Foundation is a research foundation based in Genoa, established in 2003 and operational since 2005.
IIT conducts scientific and technological research with the aim of promoting excellence in basic research and fostering the country’s technological development. The Institute operates according to a strongly interdisciplinary model and carries out its activities across several research areas, including robotics, artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, computational sciences, advanced materials, and life science technologies.
IIT’s scientific vision is summarized in the principle “Translating evolution into technology,” which guides the development of technological solutions inspired by natural mechanisms.
The Institute is organized as a network of research centers and laboratories in Italy and abroad, and collaborates with universities, research organizations, institutions, and companies. Technology transfer plays a central role, through the valorization of research results and support for the creation of new innovative enterprises.
The Institute is also actively engaged in the training of researchers and in the dissemination of scientific knowledge.
