The University of Eastern Piedmont (UPO), founded on July 31, 1998, is a young, dynamic, and inclusive institution born from the decentralization process of the University of Turin. It operates across three main campuses in Alessandria, Novara, and Vercelli, representing a unique model of a multi-centered university serving an entire region. Over 25 years, UPO has become a vital hub for education and research, deeply rooted in the local community but with a global outlook. It has played a crucial role in the social and economic development of Piedmont, fostering collaborations with local, national, and international partners.
With over 16,700 enrolled students and 47,000 graduates, UPO offers 42 degree programs, including 21 bachelor’s degrees, 16 master’s degrees, 5 single-cycle master’s degrees, and 6 doctoral programs. It boasts a robust network of more than 200 Erasmus agreements, and internationalization is a key value, with 1,595 international students accounting for 10% of total enrollment.
Committed to sustainability and innovation, UPO promotes interdisciplinary education, high-quality research, and social responsibility. Its 35 research centers, 15 spin-offs, and 17 patents highlight the scientific vitality of the university. UPO ensures high employability for its graduates, with 83.8% of master’s degree holders finding employment within a year of graduation. Proud of its “glocal” identity, UPO combines strong ties to its region with a global perspective, offering students a welcoming and stimulating environment where academic excellence and personal growth go hand in hand.
