SICOMPOSTA aims to increase the value and quality of compost. The process innovation to be developed focuses on minimizing the presence of plastic fractions in the oversize material, and consequently in the final compost, through the creation of a prototype de-plastification machine. The product innovation lies in the production of organo-mineral fertilizers and soil improvers capable of valorising ammonium sulfate—a by-product derived from the treatment plant of exhaust air and leachate generated by the composting process—simplifying field application of a material that currently requires specific equipment, thereby effectively broadening the pool of potential end-users and reducing transportation, storage, and handling costs.
