Objective of the project

Development of a pilot plant reproducing, on a pre-industrial scale, the insect rearing process and the production of lipids, proteins, and chitin.
This represents an alternative treatment for edible waste materials, which in this proposal are identified as vegetable residues from large-scale retail distribution (GDO). These residues are currently disposed of as OFMSW (Organic Fraction of Municipal Solid Waste).

RICADUTE PREVISTE SULLA COMPETITIVITÀ DELLE IMPRESE COINVOLTE

  • Possibility of developing new plants to start the production of novel classes of insect-derived products, partly related to current activities (such as lipids and animal proteins) and partly representing new products (such as chitosan)
  • Possibility of identifying new classes of products and components to be introduced into pet food, along with the opportunity to explore new market segments such as bird feed and aquarium fish feed.
  • Consolidation of expertise in a new class of plants following the validation of the technology currently under study.

COLLABORAZIONE ATTIVATA, SIA TRA IMPRESE CHE CON ORGANISMI DI RICERCA

  • CNR ISMAC Biella for its expertise in the coordination and development of complex scientific processes.
  • DISAFA Turin for its expertise in the study of protein flours derived from insects and in analyzing the correlations between industrial processes and the insect life cycle.”
  • DISB Urbino for its expertise in the treatment and application of chitosan
  • IZSTO Turin for its expertise in food safety.
