Objective of the project

The aim of the AKER project (Aerodynamic Kinetic Energy Recovery) and the research is to acquire, combine, and utilize existing scientific, technological, and commercial knowledge in the field of energy recovery to implement these systems with new energy sources that are not yet available on the market and are not currently considered by manufacturers and body builders of N2 and N3 category trucks. The research has resulted in an innovative pilot vehicle, currently not available on the market, capable of using new energy sources and recovery systems to significantly reduce the fuel consumption, costs, and pollutant emissions of the vehicles mentioned above.

RICADUTE PREVISTE SULLA COMPETITIVITÀ DELLE IMPRESE COINVOLTE

In the heavy industrial vehicle sector, up to now, there are no solutions on the market that can fully achieve the desired economic/environmental results. The research project aims to obtain the following results for the transport services sector and for truck manufacturers and fitters:

efficiency and rational use of energy, understood as energy recovery and efficient energy management;

sustainable mobility, understood as the use of powertrains with innovative fuels and technologies/components of propulsion systems for electric mobility (environmental context); Also emphasized is the possible deepening and exploitation of the wind energy recovery system to broader, cross-cutting sectors such as shipping where increased efficiency for lower costs has similar interest to that highlighted in this project regarding industrial vehicles. Finally, the specific skills acquired during the development of the project and its demonstrator will enable Podium Engineering and the other partners to consolidate their position as a partner with hybrid system manufacturers.

MODALITÀ DI DIFFUSIONE DEI RISULTATI

Regarding the transferability of results, the conduct of this research will serve to make available to the scientific community the design, simulation and experimentation results pertaining to the project conceived and described above.

For this aspect, the support of the research project by ANFIA -National Association of Automotive Industry Supply Chain is strategic. In fact, the project caught the ‘interest of the most important Trade Association, which since 1912 has been performing the function of Trade Association for over 100 years, as the spokesman for Italian companies operating at the highest level in the fields of construction, transformation and equipment of motor vehicles for individual and collective transport of people and goods.
